John was a son of John, a a gardener, & Rebecca (Gough). He had 5 sisters & 4 brothers & lived in Park Street. He worked as a wood turner, was married & had 2 children & then lived in Evans Court, Ladywell Street. He was declared missing in Suvla Bay. It was twelve months before his wife received notice of his death. He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial and St David's Church.
