William Read Humphreys

Birth: 1897
Regiment: 31110 Seaman


William was born to William, an engine fitter & Emily, & had 3 sisters & 2 brothers. The family lived at 18 Canal Road & worked in the local woollen trade. He signed on for 12 years on 2/5/1915 and was at that time 5'6", had a 33.5" chest, had brown hair & grey eyes.  He first served on the Vivid as a boy, and later as an Able Seaman. He also served on a number of other ships including the Impregnable, Zealandia, Thundered, Orion & Columbine until his lasy voyage on the Vivid in 1927. Conduct - v. good, Ability -  superior.  He received a war gratuity.
